Fishmeal Replacement by Full-Fat and Defatted Hermetia illucens Prepupae Meal in the Diet of Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata)

Insect proteins are considered as suitable low environmental impact alternatives to fishmeal for sustainable aquafeeds. Among the different insect species, Hermetia illucens has attracted research and industrial interest due its ability grow well on organic side streams, high protein content favorable amino acid profiles. Its lipid although is characterized by a lack of EPA DHA that essential fish nutrition thus defatted form meal might be better use in diets. Hence, two feeding trials were conducted investigate effects partial replacement increasing levels full-fat (up 276 g/kg) 174 H. feed intake, growth, utilization nutrient compositions gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata). Results showed both fat inclusion level critical success diets S. aurata they strongly affect consumption. A lower palatability was observed when included at dietary with being more readily accepted fish. The than type replace fishmeal, about 81–104 g/kg supporting highest consumption, an unaffected proximate composition aurata.
